Disney Pixar's Soul Finally Gets A Release Date

"Pixar's "Soul" will be released for streaming on Disney+ on December 25, 2020.

Pixar Studios was due to release two movies in 2020.

"Onward" was about "teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley embarking on a magical quest to spend one more day with their late father. Like any good adventure, their journey is filled with cryptic maps, impossible obstacles, and unimaginable discoveries. But when dear Mom finds out her sons are missing, she teams up with the legendary manticore to bring her beloved boys back home."

It was released on March 6, 2020, which happened to be right when the COVID-19 pandemic started.

This left Pixar's other movie for this year, “Soul,” in limbo as movie theaters shut down to stop the spread of COVID-19.

"Soul"''s synopsis was described as follows: "Joe is a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn't quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz -- and he's good. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul."

"Soul" was initially set to come out on June 19, 2020, but due to the pandemic, this set the movie back to November 20, 2020, taking the spot of Disney's next animated film, "Raya and the Last Dragon." However, with the pandemic still raving the United States, it was unclear if the theatrical release would even happen.

Families can watch "Soul" on Christmas Day from the comforts of home with Disney+. Unlike the live-action "Mulan" movie, which premiered earlier this year, there will be no paywall, and it will be free to watch from day one of its release.

The short film that was meant to precede "Soul" titled "Burrow" will be released to Disney+, as well as a documentary of the making of "Soul" during COVID-19, which is also being produced by Disney.
